About our Swiss Italian Farm
Situated near Daylesford in the mineral water region of Central
Victoria, Lavandula is an hour and a half from Melbourne's centre,
on the sunny side of the range. Ten minutes north of Daylesford,
this pretty location offers something for everyone; a beautiful
garden, lavender fields, body products, farm produce, a fully
licensed cafe and farmyard animals are all part of the Lavandula
experience.
The
stone farm buildings were built in the 1850s by Italian-speaking
Swiss, who came in search of gold and settled once land was
available.
Bought
from the original settler family, the rustica/farm complex is set
beside a bubbling creek, and among Australian hills, farmland and
forest. A line of Lombardy poplars leads to cobbled courtyards,
paths and dry stone walling, the homestead, barns, a stillroom and
the cafe, La Trattoria.
Stoechas
lavender is in flower here from October. The English lavender fields
are at their best from Christmas. The lavender fields are neatly
patterned, and matched with herb, cottage and potager gardens.
Lavender
is THE fragrant flower of summer. Throughout January the crop is
harvested with a hand sickle, and bunched for sale dried or fresh,
or the flowers are distilled, producing lavender water for our body
products.
Lavandula is 10 kms north of Daylesford
on the Hepburn-Newstead Road, Melway 609 C8
